    American Textiles
    Closed July 23, 1974
The image shows an embroidered textile with two large stylized trees or plants, each with rounded fruits or flowers, on a plain light-colored fabric background. The color palette comprises primarily shades of yellow, blue, green, and pink with some accents of red. The plants are positioned symmetrically, one on the left and one on the right, with a wavy, multicolored ground line in green, blue, and yellow at the bottom. The number "1714" is stitched in green thread in the upper central part of the fabric.
Rare Etchings by G.B. and G.D. Tiepolo
    Closed April 23, 1972
This is a drawing of a scene with an angel and a woman. The image has intricate detailing in strokes and shading characteristic of traditional etching techniques. Central to the composition is an angelic figure with broad wings, guiding an elderly person. To the right, a female figure stands draped in a flowing cloak, her expression contemplative. The background shows a landscape with trees and a distant hilly terrain under a vast sky, with swirling clouds suggesting an atmospheric depth. The drawing's style is reminiscent of the work of Salvator Rosa. The tone of the scene is serene yet imbued with a sense of narrative tension.
    The Art of Wilhelm Lehmbruck
    Closed August 13, 1972
A man bows his bald head deeply as he rests his splayed elbows on his thighs in this freestanding plaster sculpture. The long toes of the man’s feet nearly touch, and they are angled to our right in this photograph. He sits on a low surface, also sculpted from plaster, and his long limbs create a cage around his hollowed chest. The surface of the plaster is ivory white in some areas and parchment brown in others. The piece rests on a gray pedestal against gray walls.

    Rodin Drawings
    Closed January 30, 1972
This painting shows two nude people depicted from head to toe. One person stands, supporting the other, who seems to be leaning backwards with one of their feet raised from the ground. The leaning person has their back to us, and the standing person has their head bent down so we don't see their face. They both have pale peach skin and brown hair, and their bodies are drawn with simple gray lines without much detail. The background is beige paper, with a few faint, wavy lines by the feet of the people.
A Selection of John Gould's Bird Prints
    Closed December 6, 1971
The image shows three birds by a body of water: two in the water and one in flight above. The horizon is visible at the top with distant lands and reeds. The birds appear sleek, with a smooth texture, and the color scheme includes muted greens, grays, blues, and a hint of warm yellow in the sky. More reeds and grass are seen in the background along the water's edge, with the water reflecting the surrounding colors.
    Prints by William Hogarth
    Closed May 30, 1971
Five men are depicted in a rowing boat on the sea. Four men are involved in an interaction, with one male seated and being restrained by three others. One man is pouring liquid into his mouth from a bottle, while the other two are holding him and gesturing. The men have various facial features and are wearing cloaks and hats typical of maritime attire. The fifth man is positioned as if rowing the boat, clutching an oar with both hands. The background shows multiple sailing ships and windmills on the horizon, under a sky with large clouds. The water around the boat is depicted as wavy.
    Twentieth-Century German Prints
    Closed March 20, 1972
The image shows bright yellow pears with green and black outlines on a pink surface. The color palette includes bright yellow, deep pink, blue-grey, and black. The pears are arranged centrally on the pink surface against a dark background.
    Dürer in America
    Closed July 5, 1971
A clump of leaves with a few stems of tall, yellow blossoms are painted on a vertical sheet of tan-colored parchment. The leaves are long and rounded, with prominent, textured veining. A few blades of grass and sprigs of clover are interspersed among the dense clump of leaves. The cowslip blossoms are clusters of bell-shaped yellow petals at the end of a starburst-like formations of pale green tubes. The ground is painted an earthy gray, and the background is left blank. The artist dated the work, 1526, in the lower right corner over a monogram of his initials, AD.
Protest and Social Comment in Prints
    Closed October 19, 1970
This is a drawing of a historical or religious scene. The image is composed of multiple sections, each depicting different figures and actions within a narrative. On the left, a divine figure with a halo is seen amidst clouds, gesturing towards a kneeling crowned figure identified as "K(David)." To the right, other figures stand in discussion, one of whom holds a staff directed towards banners reading "Manasses" and "Offen-synder." Further to the right, a collection of figures are engaged in an interior scene which includes a transaction and gesture of giving. The architecture suggests a grand hall with ornate detailing and columns. The setting is completed with additional figures and a figure seated on a throne-like structure. The lines and intricate details are consistent with traditional woodcut styles, giving a historical depth to the image.
