Complementing the American modernist paintings and sculptures in the adjacent galleries, these rotating installations feature prints, drawings, and photographs by American artists working in the first half of the 20th century.

The image depicts geometric shapes and lines against a dark background. The composition includes vertical sections with various arrangements of shapes resembling an eye, tear droplets, and masks. The segments showcase circles, triangles, and ovals forming patterns resembling totemic symbols or mechanical parts. Bold brushstrokes and earthy tones enhance the mystique of the artwork, connecting the abstract forms with motifs like masks or tribal emblems.

We look down onto nine gray stone domes that melt into each other in the space of a patio enclosed with a pink marble wall opposite floor-to-ceiling windows. Each dome is nearly as tall as the ceiling over the windows, and each is made of stacked pieces of slate. At the top center of each dome is a collar of gray slate to create a pupil-like opening. The stone collar creating the openings is lighter gray around the ink-black centers, which are the shaded interiors of the domes. The domes meld and stack like a handful of bubbles.
