This painting features a landscape with a body of water stretching towards the horizon. The horizon includes dark windmills and sailboats silhouetted against the sky, with reflections on the still, yellow water. The sky is cloudy, and the setting sun at the center of the painting casts a pale-yellow glow across the center of the scene, while the edges are in shadow. Closest to us, there is grassy terrain with a wide dirt path and two rowboats near the water. The color palette is muted with browns, grays, and yellow tones.

An ivory-white, lidded jug, a long, white clay pipe, an open paper packet of tobacco, and a burning ember in a clay pot are clustered together at the front corner of a wooden table in this vertical still life painting. Against a deep, sage-green background, the table extends off the left edge, and the front corner almost brushes the right edge of the composition. The objects are lit from our left, and the area beneath the tabletop is cast into deep shadow. To our left, the stoneware jug has a flaring foot, a round body, a handle next to its tall, ridged neck, and the narrow opening is covered with a metal cap. The jug has an olive-green band around the base and an oval of the same color on its body, enclosing a coat of arms. The crest has three, stacked Xes, and the date 1650 at the top. The cupped, metal lid is affixed to the top of the jug’s handle so it can be flipped up with a thumbpiece. The long, white pipe lies along the front edge of the table with its bowl tipped toward us. A knot of burning ash appears to have knocked out of the bowl. Behind the pipe is a folded, rumpled piece of paper holding nibs of dark brown, dried tobacco. More tobacco is scattered around the pipe, along with the ends of broken pipes, which resemble sticks of white chalk. A terracotta-brown dish holds a burning ember at the back of the table. The artist signed the work as if he had inscribed the front edge of the table with cursive letters, “Jan van de Velde fecit.”

This painting is a portrait of a person depicted from the waist up, turned slightly to the right with one hand raised to their chest. The person has pale skin, rosy cheeks, a thin mustache, and long, curly brown hair. They are wearing a loose, long-sleeved blue garment on top of a billowing white shirt. The background features a dark interior space with an arched window on the right, through which a landscape with trees and a distant spire is visible under a blue sky.

It appears that a piece of paper printed in black and gray, showing a portrait of an older, bearded man, has been stuck to a wood panel using a red wax seal in this vertical composition. The cream-colored paper is crinkled and creased with wide margins around the portrait. The printed portrait shows a man from the chest up, angled to our right but looking out at us. The inner corners of his eyes are in deep shadow and he has a bulbous nose over a long, full beard. He wears a wide, soft hat tipped down to our right. He wears a heavy coat or jacket, possibly fur. His hands rest on the top of a cane, suggesting he is seated. A cross hangs from a long chain around his neck. The print is signed at dated at the top right corner of the printed image: “F. Bol. F 1642.” The glimmering red wax seal holding the paper to the wood board is imprinted with a shield. The wood itself is light tan almost with a greenish tint, and it has a dark knot near the lower left corner. Only upon closer inspection do we realize that the entire work is a single painting, and is not an actual print affixed to a wooden board.

This painting shows a landscape with rugged gray rocks, rolling green hills, and tall trees with leaves in shades of dark green and rusty orange. On the left, red and gray wooden structures sit on the rocky ground, surrounded by scattered rocks and tree limbs. Small white goats walk on the rocks around the buildings. A gray river flows from near the buildings down to a waterfall at the center of the painting. The sky above is light blue and covered with white and gray clouds.

This is an ornate goblet crafted from a nautilus shell mounted on a decorative stand. The shell has an off-white color with delicate orange patterns and is carved with swirling designs. The shell is set into an intricate golden-colored metal holder, and the stem of the goblet seems to depict a human figure with a fish tail and what looks like wings. The gold base features elaborate floral patterns.
