This painting depicts six drinking glasses filled with water, arranged closely together in two horizontal rows of three that take up most of the canvas. The two glasses in the center of both rows are slightly closer to us than the others, creating an offset pattern. The glasses have been painted with many different shapes and lines in pastel shades to give the appearance of light being reflected through clear glass and water, including light blues, teals, minty greens, light yellows and oranges, and hints of purple and pink. The background behind the glasses is a gradient of light blue to light green, and the glasses appear to stand on a reflective surface, creating even more lines of color.

Six Water Glasses

Janet Fish

Acrylic on canvas  Accession ID  2015.19.188

On View: East Building Upper Level, Gallery E406
This painting features a series of angular and curved shapes against a textured background. These shapes create a shape that looks like a skeletal bull or horse-like creature with prominent horns, wide round eyes, and a thin face. Its neck is a long line that leads to a round body. The legs are faint and indistinct. The colors of the painting are muted, earthy tones, mostly bluish-grays, dark greens, and a muted brown-red color. The background is split into two sections, with the bottom section slightly greener and the top section slightly bluer. Many of the features of the creature are distinguishable not by color, but by texture; in many places the paint appears to pucker or crease, and these creases create many of the features of the animal.

In this painting, large irregular black shapes are spread unevenly across a vivid red background. The biggest black shape stretches from the center of the painting to the bottom right corner, with two smaller ones on top of it and two in the bottom left corner. Some of the shapes contain lines or small patches of red, and some of the red background is crossed with thin black lines. Above center, a small white shape appears, closed in by the black shapes and lines of red. Other, smaller patches of white appear across the painting, especially in places where the red and black sections meet.

This is a painting of a raccoon holding an orange object and surrounded by bombs painted in red, white, and blue against a black background. Above the raccoon, the word "COOÑO" is prominently displayed in large yellow letters. Surrounding the raccoon are three bombs decorated with patterns resembling the American flag, although the stars have been replaced with white palm trees. In the lower portion of the painting, against a red background, there is text reading "Porto Rican Sweet Potatoes".

Acrylic on canvas, over panel  Accession ID  2023.37.1

On View: East Building Upper Level, Gallery E407
This painting consists of elongated, fluid lines in shades of orange, yellow, and red creating undulating shapes and streaks. The lines are mostly horizontal, but they curve up and down in a way that creates tall vertical peaks. The lines are more spread out at the top, where the colors are lighter yellow and light orange, and more packed together at the bottom, where they become red and black. Behind some of the lines, the off-white canvas is visible. Together, the lines create a pattern resembling a reflection of a sunset over water, with colors rippling across the surface.

This painting is a close-up view of a woman's head and shoulders. Her body faces the right, but her face is turned over her shoulder to look at us. She has pale skin, a thin nose, prominent purple eyes with long eyelashes, and glossy red lips that are parted to show straight white teeth. Her black hair is styled in voluminous, glossy curls. She does not wear any visible clothing. Just above her mouth, a bright red rose emerges from the right side of the image. The background is a solid blue.

This painting displays an array of curving black shapes rising from soft pink forms. The background of the painting is divided horizontally into two sections; the top section has a light gray background, while the bottom is a checkered pattern of light blue and yellow squares. The bottom half seems to reflect the black shapes and pink clouds that appear on the top of the image. The black shapes look almost like upraised legs, with the feet at the top pointed upwards. The pink forms look like fluffy clouds.

Next to the bottle, on the left, are four rectangular blocks in shades of cream, brown, white, and pale peach. The blocks form an L-shape next to the bottle. The surface the objects rest on and the wall behind them are both beige, with visible brushstrokes creating texture and variation in tone.
