Star-like Cinema: Films by Indigenous Australians is a celebration of film and video work by and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, including recently repurposed archival footage to the collaborative work by media art collectives.

Programmed in conjunction with the exhibition Photography and the Black Arts Movement: 1955-1985, this film series approaches the movement’s legacy of films and videos by and about key cultural figures like Sonia Sanchez, Gordon Parks, Barbara McCullough and many others.

Founded 70 years ago, the Flaherty Film Seminar brings together an international and intergenerational community each year to explore the transformative, world-building power of nonfiction cinema, the exchange of cinematic ideas across cultures, and the expansion of the limits of cinema itself.
