Art Investigators: Ages 4–7

As the National Gallery of Art begins to reopen, our Art Investigators Tours are currently on hold. For the latest information on upcoming public programs, please send your name and email address to [email protected] and we will add you to our Family Programs newsletter. For additional family-friendly programs and content that you can enjoy at home, see the National Gallery of Art Scavenger Hunt, Ten Digital Education Resources from the National Gallery of Art, and Kids West Building Tour: Featured Selections (multiple languages). We hope to see you back here soon!

How do you investigate a work of art? This program helps children make careful observations, analyze artists’ choices, ask questions, and use their imagination while exploring works of art. Led by museum educators, each program includes reading a children’s book, exploring one work of art in the galleries, and completing a simple hands-on activity. Each program is approximately 60 minutes.

These free drop-in programs are designed for individual families on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no advance registration and space is limited, so please plan accordingly. We will only accept sign-in for children in the age range for which the program is tailored. Groups cannot be accommodated in the program.
