Museum Assistants Program
The National Gallery of Art offers a creative, preprofessional leadership experience within the museum’s education division. This is a paid opportunity for DC residents ages 18 – 21 enrolled in the Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program. The goal of this program is to expose youth to museum careers, strengthen transferrable skills like communication and time-management skills, and build positive attitudes towards museums. Colleagues from across the museum co-facilitate sessions, such as “behind the scene” tours, career networking, and art making activities. Museum assistants also meet with staff from departments including administration, communications, conservation, curatorial, education, facilities management, horticulture, and media productions.
The Museum Assistants program offers a work experience in the museum field for emerging professionals, young creatives, high school seniors, and undergraduate students. No work experience required; the education division encourages interested participants to write [email protected] for more information about the museum assistants program.
