    I Remember That
    Closed June 16, 1946
The room contains a blue upholstered chair, a side table with intricate carvings, decorative drapery, large windows with patterned curtains, and a console table with items and a mirror. A large chandelier hangs from the ceiling. The color palette includes deep blues, golds, reds, and greens, with accents of white and brown. The chair is positioned in the foreground to the left, the side table with books and a vase of flowers sits centrally in front of the chair, and the draped windows are in the background.

The riverside scene is depicted from a slightly elevated perspective. A windmill stands prominently near the center. The horizon is high in the composition, where the river meets the sky with a line of clouds. The sketch has delicate pencil strokes giving a sketch-like quality. The color palette is monochromatic with tones of grey and beige. Small boats float on the river, with figures engaged in activities. In the distance, more boats and structures are suggested against the horizon line.

A young woman draws on an oval surface with white chalk while three winged, baby-like putti gather nearby, all on a bank of pale pink clouds in this horizontal painting. The woman and putti have pale, rosy skin, flushed cheeks, and hazel-brown eyes. To our left, the woman reclines with her upper body propped up on her far elbow, which rests on a steel-blue cushion as her legs stretch out to our right. Her light brown hair is braided and wrapped across the top of her head. She wears a loose, seafoam-green robe over a billowing ivory-white garment that has slipped off the shoulder closer to us. A round paint palette with brushes sticking out of its thumb hole and a roll of blue and white paper sit in the lower left corner, behind the woman. The woman and the objects are on a red cloth. In front of the woman is a rounded surface, perhaps a canvas, on which she draws. She holds up a gold-colored stylus with her right hand, closer to us, with a pointed piece of white chalk in one end and black chalk in the other. The canvas is taller than her head, so the child-like putto she draws on it is life-sized. The three nude putti on the far side of the canvas have copper or golden-blond, curly hair, flushed, rounded cheeks, short wings in white or peacock blue, pudgy torsos, and dimpled limbs. One putto, presumably the one the woman draws, sits back on the bank of clouds with a carnation-pink sash across his chest. He pulls his chin back and looks at her from under his eyebrows. He holds a gold-colored torch with a pink flame in one hand, and the other hand rests near a cylindrical quiver of arrows. Another putto peeks around the side of the canvas, and the third stands and props the canvas up. That third putto holds up a wreath of laurel leaves up over the canvas, above the woman’s drawing hand. The bank of clouds is parchment-brown with muted pink and blue highlights against a vivid blue sky. The artist signed and dated the lower right, “F Boucher – 1765.”

This is a drawing of an urban street scene. The illustration features various individuals and activities. The scene depicts a city street with attention to architecture and historical attire. In the foreground, a woman in a bonnet and gown is talking to another similarly dressed woman. A man on horseback is holding a letter and appears to be communicating with a group of seated figures inside a covered cart or stagecoach. Architectural elements, such as a bell and a stone facade, are present. A barrel and square packages or crates are in the bottom right corner. Additional figures are in the background, one looking out from a doorway. The drawing captures a lively depiction of urban life.
    Audubon Prints, "Birds of America"
    Closed July 28, 1946
An ocean-blue bird with a long body and a flax-yellow beak and legs stands in a lush landscape in this vertical color print. The image is printed on cream-colored paper with a wide margin around the edges. The bird stands with its body in profile facing our left on a low dirt mound. Its head is turned completely around to our right with its beak tilted down and one amber-yellow eye looking our way. Its tall legs are dotted with brown, and a long blue and brown plume drapes down from its back. Long, plum-purple feathers adorn its throat, and white feathers line the underside of its neck and head. The bird stands next to a tall plant to the right. Bare tree trunks float in a pewter-gray river that begins in the lower left and widens as it reaches the center. The river divides the bird from a grove of palm trees, bushes, and reeds painted in muted tones of green, yellow, and gray that almost fills the left side. Another grove of palms in tones of gray fills the center distance with bare, contorted tree trunks in the water before it. The print is inscribed outside the image in all four corners and the bottom center. The upper left reads, “No. 44” and the upper right reads, “Plate CCXVII.” The lower left reads, “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon. F.R.S. F.L.S.” and the lower right reads, “Engraved, Printed & Coloured by R. Havell, 1834.” The center inscription reads, “Louisiana Heron” printed in script and continues, “ARDEA LUDOVICIANA. Wils Male adult.”

The image shows a coastal landscape with small sailing boats in the water. The viewpoint is elevated, showing the coastline, water, and a distant town or village at the horizon. There are buildings with domes and towers along the horizon, with hills behind them. On the left are rocky outcrops with buildings and vegetation, while on the right, a tall cliff rises above the sea with a fortress-like structure. The etching uses fine lines of varying density to depict texture and depth, with a monochromatic color palette highlighting pen strokes and shading for contrast and realism.

The image shows a sketch of five figures depicted in various stances. They are dressed in attire characteristic of the period, wearing long coats, knee-length breeches, cravats, and tricorn hats. The clothing details are emphasized, conveying movement. The figures are interacting with each other or an unseen object. The drawing is monochromatic, predominantly in red chalk, with minimal facial features depicted. The background is plain and lacks additional context.

The image shows three individuals from the waist up in a sketch. One person on the left stands in the background, while the central figure is seated or leaning forward. Another individual seated on the right holds a cylindrical object. The background is simple, with hatched lines for depth or texture.

The image shows a crowded scene with multiple figures closely gathered together. The figures are depicted in swift, broad strokes suggesting movement and interaction. Varying shades of brown are used for depth and contrast. Two vertical lines are included in the composition, potentially representing pillars. The atmosphere is energetic and slightly somber, with a monochromatic color palette and fluid lines.

The image features two women. The woman on the left is standing, holding a mask in her right hand and pointing with her left arm extended. She wears a gown with fur-like trimming. The woman on the right is sitting, looking upward with a fan in her left hand. She also wears a gown with fur-like trimming. There are no other objects or scenery visible in the plain background.
