Join us for drawing activities inspired by East Building architecture from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. At noon and 3:00 p.m., immerse yourself in 32 Sounds, a documentary and sensory experience from filmmaker Sam Green (registration required). And at 1:00 p.m., join National Gallery educator Nathalie Ryan for a tour of Philip Guston Now.

Experience the elemental phenomenon of sound through this moving meditation on sound’s power to bend time, cross borders, and profoundly shape our perception of the world. An immersive, participatory image and sound experience, 32 Sounds develops in real time with a live audience, complete with individual headphones for each audience member. Live narration by award winning filmmaker Sam Green, with music by JD Samson (Le Tigre, MEN). (Total running time is approximately 90 minutes)

This conversational exhibition tour explores Philip Guston’s 50-year career and the historical events that influenced his work. We will consider how Guston bridged the personal and political, the abstract and figurative, and the humorous and the tragic. 60 minutes. Led by staff from the Department of Interpretation.
