Celebrating Conservation

A Series of Conversations on Its Past, Present, and Future

November 14–December 5, 2022

Join us to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the conservation division at the National Gallery of Art. The National Gallery’s conservation division and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts will cohost a series of virtual moderated discussions on the depth and breadth of art conservation, its history and myriad collaborations, and its role in preserving tangible and intangible heritage. “Celebrating Conservation” consists of four sessions that reflect on the state of the field and identify innovative paths forward.

These virtual discussions will take place on four consecutive Mondays: November 14, 21, 28, and December 5. Each session features three distinguished speakers engaged in an hour-long, live discussion moderated by conservation division staff.

Short talks recorded by speakers will be available approximately one week prior to each session below and will remain available for streaming until December 12, 2022. The prerecorded talks address the session’s theme and are designed to enhance discussion.
