The following is an excerpt from a email of 4 January 2000 from Kathleen Guterl Jordan, niece of the artist:
We have received the transparencies of Child's Cap and Lace Edge by our uncle Raymond Guterl. The following is information I have put together about him. He was born on October 18, 1901 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He died on March 18, 1971. He greaduated from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City in 1920. He was in the glee club and the debating society and won special praise in the debating society by successfully advocating for woman's sufferage. He was employed as a draftsman in the engineering division of the engineering division of the Jersey City department of public works. His obituary says that "his natural ability as an artist allowed him to do architectural work in the department, although he had no degree in architecture.
