Vannes, Albert du

Biography

Albert du Vannes was born Albert Di Giovanni in Naples, Italy. A biography written by his son, housed at the Archives of American Art, details du Vannes' move to St. Paul, Minnesota at age 12. Around 1902, du Vannes and settled in New York. He took up painting, but later gave it up to focus his attention on opening an art gallery. In 1926, he legally changed his name.
