Biography

The Viscount succeeded his father in 1911. On 5 January 1905 he had married Agnes Elizabeth, daughter of Dacre Mervyn Archdale Hamilton of Cornacassa, Monaghan. They had a son--Edward Henry Harold, who succeeded his father as 7th Viscount--and three daughters. Ward was a Privy Counsellor of Northern Ireland (1931), created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (1919), a representative peer for Ireland, a Member of the Senate of Northern Ireland, Speaker of the Senate from 1930, and appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland (1929). He also served as Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Garrison Artillery.
