Biography

Mrs. Lucie Buckleam Read was a descendant Prudence Caton Thompson and her second husband, Captain George Hobbs of Laurel, Delaware. Mrs. Read inherited through Florence Hammersley, the daughter of Prudence Thompson and her first husband, Thomas Hammersley of Baltimore, a portrait (now in the NGA) of Adelina Morton [b. 1802], painted around 1810 by Baltimore-based naive artist Joshua Johnson. Adelina, the daughter of Captain Robert and Anne Thompson Morton, was Prudence Thompson's niece.
