Manufactured Landscapes

Turning his large format camera on massive industrial projects—huge factories, hydroelectric dams, quarries, recycling yards, and dumping grounds—Edward Burtynsky revealed unsettling undercurrents. While visually stunning, his photographs raise awkward questions about the interplay between environmental, moral, and aesthetic values. Documenting these celebrated works, Manufactured Landscapes is a collaboration between Burtynsky and the Canadian filmmakers Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier. (2006, 86 minutes)
